This is a bridge that appears as arched
but yet is flat ! It is located in The Villages community in
south-eastern San Jose.

Because this is a retirement community, a
flat bridge was a necessity for accommodating those with limited
ambulatory ability. It just goes to show that an arched bridge need not
be actually arched.

Above is an arched cedar bridge. Note the
hefty butcher-block hand-rail. It was all designed to appear
architecturally Japanese. It is located at Furuishis Nursery in Los
Altos, a pristine, multi-generational Japanese family-owned garden
business.

Another all-cedar bridge of the Japanese style shown above.
