The Fagan Project

Here is a deck and arbor project with a distinctly Western style.
Its ranch character compliments the dry, oak-studded, horse-roaming knolls
in the distance.
The arbor is supported from above rather than below in order to give as
much clearance as possible. It also continues under the second story
balcony deck and hides that
dominant structure from view.

The deck features a border of seating that maintains its open prairie
vista.

This deck appeared on the front cover of Home Mechanics
magazine in March, 1992 with a feature article inside (pp 30-31)
showing how the canopy was hung from the overhead beam using suspension
posts. Good luck -- it's
not as easy as it looks.
