Here is a complex structure that conforms to the slopes and angles
of the window and roof structure. The contrast between light and dark
elements accentuates the existing architecture.
The lattice arbor is itself an
architectural achievement. Two supporting beams run across the diagonal
and intersect in the center. The front diagonal corner has yet another
intersecting beam that is supported by two posts while all the other
corners are supported by one. Wherever any two beams cross, the upper beam
is carved out in the shape of an arch (the arch in the center of the arbor
where the two major beams cross is not visible in the photo).

The
canopy itself is simple and symmetric. The seating below follows the
contour of the canopy with break points for passage. It's all centered
around a gas-fired octagonal brick fire-pit.
This
structure only begged for accent nighttime lighting. The seats have lights
underneath at every post. The stair's railings have lights at the top and
bottom steps. And the arbor's canopy has colored spot lights aimed through
each arch in the beams. Although difficult to photograph, day or night, it
is at anytime a sight to behold!
