This is both an arbor and deck project. Both are engineered to be "minimum maintenance". The deck is optional and is priced separately below. The arbor is a derivative work of the
Rodrigues project that is adapted here to a straight-in connection with the house and centered
beneath a steep gable. The gable of the arbor is sloped to conform to the
45° roof-line of the house. The large opening in the arbor's gable imposed
by this architectural change introduces an unobstructed view of the
wall behind it, so a semi-circular arch is used to fill the gap The gable-arch sports a crystal candelabra lamp with a short tether. Arbor Dimensions: Total height of arbor above deck - 14' Central opening between columns - 11' Width of arbor - 26' Facia border height - 14" Arbor Specifications: Front columns are 7-foot 4-inch x 12-inch diameter 5/8-inch thick walled fiber-glass reinforced plastic sleeves over 8x8 pressure-treated posts cemented 48 inches below grade. Side columns are 8-inch diameter 1/2-inch thick sleeves of same material over 6x6 PT posts cemented 48-inches below grade. Rafters and beams are #1 select 4x6 and 6x12, respectively, Douglas Fir timbers, resawn and painted 3 times, and clad with a 1/8" PVC cap if the frame is to be white or beige, or a 20 gauge aluminum cap for other colors. The 2x10 facia around the side-wings and their 4.5" crown are fabricated from Douglas Fir. The privacy screen is lattice made from crossing 1/4 x 1.5 inch strips of white or beige PVC. Deck Specifications: Deck and steps are surfaced with solid-plastic PrimoPlank 2x6 standard grade, blue-gray or driftwood color. Facia is white above-standard grade PrimoPlank 2x10. Skirting is same PVC lattice as screens. Railings are turned solid-plastic 4x4 Mediterranean balusters with a 2x4 top-rail capped with a 2x6. All elements are fabricated from white PrimoPlank.
