Background
This arbor design was not done for
anyone in particular, but is just a design off my drafting board as of
1/10/05.
Description:
This structure is a true arbor, with an open-air canopy designed
to be as spectacular from inside it as it is outside. The canopy
has been tailored to cast very pleasing soft fan-patterns throughout
the day.
Its entire exposed canopy is made from hollow square PVC tubing
with flush-capped ends. All exposed wooden elements in the canopy are
capped with PVC to prevent moisture damage that usually accompanies
any exposed wooden open-air structure. All the timbers are #1
select-structural exposed-grade Douglas Fir, resawn and painted a
brilliant white semi-gloss to match the white PVC canopy.
The center skylight is a heavy-duty grid made from vertical,
intersecting white solid-plastic 2x6's. The HD lattice screens are
made from flush-crossing white solid-plastic 2x2's.
This structure must be supported by posts planted 4 feet beneath
ground level because there is no structural lateral-bracing in
this complex 3D-canopy design. So an existing patio will have to be
diamond-core cut in eight places.
