Designer Spiral Staircase #1 – Pole-mount
This spiraling staircase is prefabricated from solid-plastic, permanently colored PrimoPlank. It's all maintenance free. It was installed in a 65x65 stair-well. It is a two colored structure: the balusters, handrail and spiral stringer are light-oak color; the treads, spacer-blocks and support struts are Chestnut color. It is built around a sectioned 4-inch OD steel pipe.
Each tread is independently supported
from below it by a 4x4 angled strut mounted to
a spacer block. Both the tread and spacer-block are slipped over the central
pipe.
At the top of the stair, the spacer-blocks are stacked to create a rigid stair-post for mounting the top platform railing. The basic stair height is 10 ft- 3¼ in: there are 17 steps each 7¼" high, giving the basic minimum height of 10'- 3¼". Any variation in height can be accommodated by our sizing the heights of the spacer-blocks to fit your situation.
A standard
height staircase makes 1¼ revolutions (450º).
Note: This plastic staircase does not qualify for use as a fire-escape. Click here for a real deal on this style staircase for a deck. The staircase comes to you totally disassembled -- both layout and assembly instructions are provided along with photos. A baluster height-and-spacer jig is provided with the kit to greatly speed up the railing installation. One skilled contractor can assemble this staircase inside a stairwell by himself in 2 days. Having a semi-skilled helper to pre-assemble the treads and help with the railing could reduce the erection time to a single day. All assembly hardware is provided. Only non-corrosive Dacronite flared-head screws are used. The 4-inch pipe is to be mounted onto a 3½-inch 20-inch stub pipe, 10 inches of which is cemented into a concrete base. The only item that you will have to provide is the concrete. You have a choice of any of the 10 colors of above-standard grade PrimoPlank. You can specify a mix of colors for striking effects as we have done here. You must first communicate your physical situation to us to order this product. We will not sell this staircase as a do-it-yourself kit; you must have a licensed certified contractor purchase the kit for you -- no exceptions, unless we install it ourselves at your expense. You will need a powered screwdriver with a
multiple-setting clutch-chuck to and
two 12-inch quick-release clamps
