Tea House
This tea house arbor over a platform deck was
inspired by a photo of a native swamp-hut on the isle of Bali -- yet it
was constructed in Fremont, California. The intent was to transport the
owner’s from their suburban dwelling to the South Pacific - in just about 10 steps!

All the construction has been done with
clear-heart redwood - except one element. The roofing is gray ¼" acrylic
plastic sheeting set between the rafters. This plastic sheeting has worked out better than
ever expected. It has held up well in the '96 disaster rains and numerous
seasons of the hot California sun.
The openness of this structure gives the occupant a sense of being
immersed in the foliated garden while at the same time being sheltered
from the sun. A number of weekend afternoons were whiled away here
in this peaceful setting. And many a tranquil evening are spent here with
friends in
this island refuge.
