From the ridiculous to the sublime, the pattern is basically one design!

This basic arbor dots the California landscape everywhere new developments are springing up. It's more ubiquitous than the windmills on Altamont Pass!

Even architects specify them. They're easy to build -- just about any landscape contractor can do it.  They're also cheap relative to designer arbors.

The basic design starts with four posts -- boards are clad to both sides of each pair -- on top of that some smaller boards are stacked in the opposite direction -- and lots of sticks are stacked in the opposing direction on top of that . And what you get is a stack of sticks ! The broad canopies have lots of posts too --  more like a trestle than a trellis.
