These plastic staircases are not to be used inside the house because of the toxic fumes that would be generated in case of a fire. For outdoors, they are the best spiral staircases possible: They won't rust like steel, oxidize like aluminum or rot like wood. And solid, colored plastic will outdo a wooden staircase hands down, regardless of the type of wood.

And here's a safety consideration: If you should fall going down a solid-plastic staircase you won't get all scraped up like you would on a metal or wooden staircase. Why? Because the plastic just doesn't have those unyielding sharp edges.
